Dupuytren's Symptoms

Dupuytren's can cause the fingers to curl inwards towards the palm and can result in
impaired function of the fingers. One or both hands may be affected. The small and
ring fingers are especially affected.

The condition may first start as a small nodule or lump developing in the tissue below
the skin on the palm side of the hand. Over time, it can extend into a cord-like band in
the finger. The contracture sets in slowly and it becomes difficult to extend or
straighten the fingers. Additionally, finger joints may become fixed and rigid.

The severity and the impact of Dupuytren's is different for every individual, but it tends
to be more aggressive when it develops in younger people.
